Why Provide Mentoring Scholarships?
The scholarship program is designed to benefit not only the students, who emerge with a richer appreciation of music and performance, but also the ensemble, which considers the perspective of younger performers an important aspect of musical collaboration. We recognize that healthy longevity of the arts will be determined by participants and supporters of the future. Cultivation and opportunity to work with those future artists is critical.
Every year, Calliope awards full-season mentoring scholarships to high school vocalists and instrumentalists. While on scholarship, the students rehearse and perform as regular members of the ensemble and receive individual guidance as they consider ways to pursue and share their musical interests.
Our goal is to follow scholarship recipients post-Calliope and to encourage their mentoring of young musicians in the future.
